Morocco – Marrakech to Atlas Mountains

Marrakech – a city that combines ancient traditions and exciting creativity, and is an enticing destination for those touring the country for the first time, as well as seasoned Moroccan travelers who want to revisit its elegant stores and excellent hotels. In five days you will experience the rich history, the exciting markets and you can take exotic trips to the nearby mountains and desert.

Day 1 Marrakech – culture meets modernity

Upon arrival at the hotel, book a guide to give you a first glimpse of the old medina and the main sights such as the Medersa Ben Youssef (Koranic school) from the Middle Ages and the impressive Koutoubia Mosque. Also the Musee du Marrakech, which is located in the magnificent Mnebhi Palace from the 19th century. The building, which is housed in a seventeenth-century palace, is well worth a visit with its exhibits of Islamic architecture, gardens, and impressive history of the region.

Every evening at sunset, the artists and snake charmers in the main square, Djemaa el-Fna, beckon you to visit. Enjoy your dinner in one of the city's classic restaurants housed in a restored riad: such as Le Tobsil, Dar Moha (in Pierre Cardin's former home) or Yacout.

Day 2 Immerse yourself in a world of contrasts

Get up early to get to the Jardin Majorelle, lovingly redesigned by Yves Saint Laurent, in good time. The exotic plants and impressive painted buildings are especially beautiful in the morning sun. You should also be sure to stop by the Berber Museum and the wonderful gift store on the grounds.

Afterwards, a delicious lunch awaits you by the pool of your hotel. In the afternoon, explore the colorful souk with its spice merchants and lantern makers, the carpet stores and leather merchants. However, you should book a guide so that you do not get lost in the confusing maze of the market. Gueliz, the new town, is home to some of the chic French brasseries that are popular with the French living here. Le Studio or Grand Cafe de la Poste are great places for a delicious dinner.

Day 3 Wellness Moroccan

After a relaxing morning at the hotel with a traditional Moroccan spa treatment, e.g. at a hammam with a rejuvenating bath and steam treatment, you will be taken by four-wheel drive jeeps on an expedition into the Agafay desert, 40 minutes from town. At Camp La Pause you can take camel tours and enjoy delicious regional specialties in the Berber tent. You will return to the hotel in the afternoon and have the opportunity to rest a little before dinner.

Day 4 The Atlas Mountains are calling

get up early for a trip south to the Atlas Mountains. Many Berbers live in this breathtaking landscape, which has often been used as a backdrop for movies set in Tibet. You can visit their villages for weekly markets, hike in the shadow of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, or zipline and ride around on desert vehicles at one of the eco-adventure parks. Book your lunch at Domaine de la Rosaire. Here you have the option to go horseback riding or hiking after dinner.

You'll then return to Marrakech in time to enjoy drinks and your dinner at one of the legendary palaces like La Mamounia or the Royal Mansour. Both establishments have Michelin starred chefs. Marvel at the sunset as it bathes the "red city" in sparkling light.

Day 5 Shopping or pottery class, everything is possible

Today you explore the city further according to your interests. How about a hands-on pottery class to discover the techniques you need for traditional ceramics? You can also book a private cooking class in a state of the art kitchen and learn how to cook with spices and a tagine. Of course, you can also visit the medina and enjoy an extensive shopping tour and go in search of old furniture, hand-woven carpets or creative fashion for example. Enjoy your lunch at one of the rooftop restaurants in the medina like the Terrasse des epices.

On your last evening, treat yourself to dinner at the Palmeraie, the palm grove at the gates of the city. You will find many fantastic private villas and gardens here. Afterwards we go to one of the hip nightclubs of the city like the Jad Mahal, Le Comptoir or Djellabar.
